been out of town, just saw your post, its not hard and hardly expensive to get certified, if your able to afford reef keeping, getting certified is only a couple hundred bucks!

The east jetty over here in Destin is nice to snorkel too. It's also a nice dive with a drop off.

I think the name of the road is gulf shores drive. Right at the intersection of Winn Dixie and target take that road south. It will have a sharp right turn, keep falling the road almost to the end, and there's public parking and access to the jetties between tennis courts/hotel and a personally home. Can't miss it.

Just wondering if any of you frequent the jetties. I never have anyone to go with.

I went last weekend. Saw a school or rays, not sure if they were devil or cow nose, but they were in shallow. Also saw a few flounders and lots of 6 line wrasse, Sargent major and rock beauty's and Beau Gregory's

No 6-line wrasse's at the jetties in PCB, they are a Pacific species.

I've never seen Rock Beauty's there, but then I rarely dive at the jetties in Nov. Too darn cold for me.

Sorry about the nomenclature , growing up they were six line wrasse because they have six lines on them . I will see if I can find a picture to name them. The rock beauty may be the same thing, a local name. They are purple black, small mouth, aggressive.

Rock Beauty is the name normally given to an angelfish. It's bright yellow with a big black patch on it's back. They can get immensely huge as angels go, but most folks seem to think that they only hit 7 or 8 inches or so due to a mistake in a popular book. Not a good aquarium fish due to being a near-obligate sponge eater.

We normally never see them them up here, but hurricanes can bring them up along with numerous other goodies.

I'm guessing you were describing the wrasse as purple/black with a small mouth? Deep vivid purple or a pale lavender purple?
