Diy Led Build Guide

Ok, so I'm picking up another aquaticlife 4 bulb t5ho light setup and the ballast or bulbs are all bad but the light cycle settings still work. I ordered the 36 premium cree led retro kit and way over shot how many I needed for my 56 bowfront. My question for you electrical gurus is can I plumb each cycle of lights into the aquaticlife's timer board after I strip it out? I plan to gut it and use it to hold everything along with the splash cover and upgrading the cooling fans inside it with some high speed cpu fans that I have laying around so everything will be enclosed.

My plan is use 60% actinics to 40% white and space them 2"x2".

Lmk if any of yall experienced with the heat from the led's wouldn't go this route.

I'll update once I get the kit and began work. Thanks

When you are dismantling the T5 fixture make sure the timer circuit is before the ballast so you'llknow that 110V is coming out of it and it ought to be be able to work. Heat from the LED's isn't as great as T-5's so using the proper heat sink and the CPUfans shouldn't cause you any heat problems.

As for overkill on 36 led's on a 56 bowfront....let's just say I used substantially more on a 40L shallow breeder.

I recomend adding some red, green and UV LEDs. The Radion uses these and is gaining popularity. The guy at Progressive Marine in Mobile recently put a DIY LED setup on his main display. He has a channel with red, green and UV. It looks amazing. I will be supplementing my AI SOLs with some of these soon.

Yardboy -- I used 6-32 x 3/8 Nylon Socket Head Cap Screw 100/pkg. I think I paid about $8.

Thanks kbass! You said they could be picked up on ebay? I'll have to hunt some of those down!

Did Progressive move? The last time I was by there in that place behind Lowe's in Tillman's Corner they were closed and there were a bunch of mattresses stacked inside?!
