Things are almost back to normal at the Clown Hatchery. I had a few months of tiny nests, and only one pair laying so my numbers are tiny. I have been able to keep one local store stocked up but thats it. But my primary pair's ness are geting bigger, and I have one more female OcellarisFalse Perc pair that is spawning, but the eggs are gone the next morning. Either she or her mate are eating them, or hes not fertilizing them. Also I just found my True Perculas laid a nest for the first time! Its only about 20 eggs, but its a start. So hopefully here in the near future, I will be able to stock the panhandle stores again with true and false percs. And many thanks to them for continually checking in with me. You guys have some great store owners in your area!!

Glad to hear things are progressing Miles.

I took a hard look at my 2 B&Ws and I can definatly see a size diffrence with one. Keeping my fingers crossed.

They are generally a lot different in size. Although my best female is not as big as the rest of them, shes still 1/3 larger than the male. The rest of the pairs, the female is nearly twice the size. How old are yours? I've had 1 B&W pair almost 2 years, and another 1.5 years. The largest B&W fem is almost 4 inches long. Still not spawning. :( Hopefully soon. It'd be nice to have some ready for xmas time!

they were late stage juvi's when i got them back in December of 08.

I am just seeing some size diffrences and hoping that the decision on who is the male and who the female int he tank will be smooth with little fighting.

We have a pair that are regular spawners, but they are in a main display tank. They host in a BTA and lay on live rock. I am having trouble with my rotifer concentration, so we havent attempted these yet.

ANDDDDD my other pair that took the spring and summer off just laid another nest last night. Up to 4 nests this week... 2 from occelaris, 1 true perc and 1 cinnamon nest. Althought the percs and cinns nest are only about 20 eggs each. I'll give them a try though. Im having to greatly ramp up my rotifer production so hopefully I'll have enough for them all. Good times... 8-)

Glad to hear this. Hopefully your B&W's will come through soon.

In your opinion, which type of clown has the least aggression issues? Towards other fish that is.

Clowns are damsels, so they can get aggressive. But in my exp, the common Ocellaris has shown the least aggression to other fish. Although they've be known to bite me! My Cinnamon was aggressive to anything smaller than it, the B&W was agressive with the cinn guarding its terrritory but neither bothered the tangs. The true percs I cant say since the only ones I've had were never exposed to other fish. Nor have I ever owned a maroon. Clarkiis are pretty agressive to other clowns too. But as a general rule, dont mix clown species. Percs and Os are fine together, Cinns and tomatoes are fine together, but I don't reccomend Cinns and Percs. Or Maroons with any other clown. But like any fish... there are exceptions to the rules.

I've got a Tomato, Clarki, and pink skunk in my 200. My wife still wants Nemo and I keep telling her that's the one that will upset the apple cart. She's the gambler though. I just keep telling her that nobody has one.

That's great to hear Miles.

I finally got my false Perc from one of our local members. You could say that I rescued him from a smaller Maroon clown that didn't want visitors in it's turf. The day after I introduced her every fish in the tank, even my lawnmower blenny, was after her. She got some fins nipped and hid for a day. After that everything settled down and now (over a week later) she's doing fine and has been accepted.

As you mentioned previously, it did work out but only because of my tank size and amount of cover. I wouldn't recommend more than a pair of the same species to others unless you have a large tank.

Aquaria and Matts Coral Connection have fresh shipments of Clown Hatchery Clowns. Stop in a and take a look. Matt's has one (if they dont hide it away) with a silver tail stripe.... Only the third time I've seen one like it.

I finally had a successful hatch of True Perculas. But they did hatch on day 16... not the normal +/- 10 days. They are about 2 weeks old and still going through metamorphosis. I've also switched to manual extraction of post hatch cinnamons from the main tank... ( scooping them out with a cup from the tank instead of moving the nest to hatching tank) Don't think I have many (if any) from the first attempt as they are sharing a tank with baby ocellaris. Only about 20 left from the 2nd batch at a week old. But thats a 1000% increase from the last 15 clutches. :) (KNOCK ON WOOD) Things are going pretty good right now.

We have to collect all of our fry manually, but it has been working well for us. True percs, I would love to have a pair. I havent tried to mix any of the batches yet. Since I have gsm, b&ws and clarks I dont think that it would work well for me. Interesting that you are mixing the cins. Good luck - the more fish the merrier!
