short sunday dive

Recommended Posts

fud

Had to be home for my buddies moms b-day so we got one dive with 2 divers in really quick on sunday! Heres the results from SE 13 miles at 127 ft. Everything was poke poled minus the little king and trigger. The king was flylined whilst the boys were following our bubbles ,and I hand caught the trigger believe it or not! He swam right into the hole i was pulling the shovel nose from i had to move him to get to my lobsters!

Nice catch. Sounds like you had a blast. My uncle worked with dolphins in the keys and use to catch lobsters. The dolphin caught on fast and started catching them and trowing them in the boat for him. The down side was that a dolphin doesn't understand the concept of out-of-season and the coast guard wasn't happy to see a navy boat with a lobster go flying into it. They didn't believe my uncle or his mates that it wasn't a diver down there, but a dolphin and they always threw the lobsters back when out-of-season. As they argued about bringing up the diver, three more trips by the dolphin landed lobsters in the boat. As they were about to get arrested, one of the coast guard guys saw the dolphin when the third lobster went flying into the boat.

How many tank dives are you doing?

2 or 3?

What size tanks are you using? 80's? 100's? 120s?

PM me your phone number and I can get up with you and Jacob later on during the week and try to plan something.

I'm signed up for the next EANx course on Sept. 11th.

3 dives sunday 2 today all on 80s with EANx.. unless you are fat, outa shape or some dude thats 6'5" and hogs down air 80cu is all you will ever need. If we go i will pick up the tanks so you can dive nitrox aswell... Its the same as diving 21% you just set your computer to 32% and go about your business.. were you looking to hunt or just go look around?

I want to hunt and prowl for bugs. I'm very comfortable underwater. I dive with a Ocean Pro Plus 2, so I would change the mix from 21 to 32? I'd like to discuss everything before doing the dive though as far as MOD and stuff that I don't know about or I suppose I don't need to know jack since the computer is handling everything.

How long are you surface intervals? I hear with Nitrox there slim to none and you feel great after you come back up with no drowsiness or sluggish feelings.

Get up with me...I'm down for whatever :)

Yea just change your mix to 32% and your good to go the computer does the rest or even easier just do what we do. I usually list our MOD as 130 but it depends on where we go and what we find. We usually take about an hour interval each time plus you eat that time up going to new spots or grabbing food. Generally we will not dive the same place twice me and Fud don't miss much while we are down there so one time is all we need.

Have you been lobetering before and you know what your looking for ect?

Yea I know 130 is pushing it but it plenty safe if your using air intergraded computers and have pony bottles. If we were timing dives out on a stop watch or a cheap computer not capable on running deco calculations(should a accident occur) with no breathing gas redundancy your absolutely right, it would be asking for trouble.

And oxygen toxicity isn't as issues since you can accidently exceed your maximum depth diving a natural reef, cant go any further than the bottom. So keeping the bottom machine in the 120ft area you wont get into trouble..

With our max P02 exposure around 1.5-1.6 a mod of 130 is not a problem besides that is a MOD after all (Maximum Operating Depth (MOD) for those -playing the home game)

"When diving Nitrox, do you prefer your maximum PO2 exposure to be 1.2 ATA? 1.6 ATA? Depending on where you learned and your own personal comfort zone, the answer may be very different from diver to diver."

Nice to know you care for me there big guy LOL ;) j/k

Those underwater pics and lobsters were around 120-129ft down. the 129 was the max recorded depth I got I'm sure it was when I was down in a hole or ledge.

Ox Tox was my main concern. On 32 you looking at a MOD of 110. Something happens to you, you pretty much drag your buddy with you if he goes after your sinking butt.

Yea, I dont see me free diving 129ft. Im good for 40 max, but I aint happy about it.

It all depends on your equipment, experience, and abality. If your newly certified and do that then yes your gonna get hurt; if your knowledgeable, have the proper equipment and have the experience and comfort with what your doing then you will be fine its not for everyone.

(plus we are not on the black abyss you cant go any deeper then the bottom if your sinking. I have bounce dove for lost equipment before it has the same dive profile as a spike to 125 it all depends on your training, equipment, and ability)

Diving just like anything as you are well aware is an accepted risk hell, fud and I saw a 10 ft hammerhead giving us the stink eye then on the next dive he saw a 8ft mako when my back was turned, and after that a spotted moray the size of my arm took a swipe at my hand trying to bite me while I was near his hole.

Jacob,

Never been exclusively hunting for bugs although I snagged 2 bull dozers the weekend before last while shooting fish on the Timerholes. I do know what to look for when it comes to shovelnose, I'm sure I could always learn more from you guys though. I have yet to see any Spiny's while diving, so we'll have to try that when the main season comes up I suppose.

100-130 is fine with me.

I'm ready when yall are ready.

Im not trying to be argumenative. Just discussing. Like I said Ox Tox was my main concern for yall. The best computer in the world isnt going to fix you if it hits. Id rather get bent and ride the chamber then ox tox. From what little I know its like being drunk, but not really narced. You know what all is going on around you, but you cant do anything about it. If you start to sink and cant swim, I would hope to pass out before I ran outta air.

I know the tables have alot of le-way built into them. But operating outside the MOD on 32% (I hate calling it that) is risky.

Good luck hunting. Maybe if I get a day off without the kids, Id love to come drive the boat. I feel I have a good amount of experince on the water. ;)

Ok for the sake of friendly argument I just dug out dang my nitrox/trimix tables out of the closet. Maxium mod for a 32% mix is 130fsw. If needed i can snap and upload a pic LOL :) Anyway the point is we are both correct the risk is higher but I dont see it as a threat to my life or anyones life diving a reef where we cant sink any deeper than the bottom. Now that being said If the dive was a wreck dive like the Big-O where the bottom is still along way off your argument would be dead on and we would be playing with fire without a doubt. Now im sure we can all agree with that
