Dc pump choices

Recommended Posts

Deciding between a skimz from BRS or a dcp from eBay/lfs. d7d7ffdf72b37e8e62e68ff4239ec009.jpg28c7e1c0dfc0b13a842766fc731865e6.jpg . I’m running a DCP6500 on my 125 gallon for about 10 months now doing great. Setting up a 75 gallon and want a quiet DC pump with feed mode. Any input is appreciated.

Here is what I have heard (not researched so take with a grain of salt)  as of a few years ago 95% of the DC motor blocks used in aquarium pumps were all made in the same factory and just the controller and casing/impeller varied from brand to brand.  So basically a 6000gph DC pump was the same across the board.  Red Dragon pumps out of Germany were ones that were made, I think in Germany from scratch.

I have a friend running one of the the biggest of the Jeabo dc pumps and has been for several years now,  not a hiccup.  BUT I also have heard from people where theirs was dead out of the box or died a year or 2 after use.  To me that means the QC on the pumps is lacking and you are rolling the dice on how good of a one you are getting.

All that said,  I would suggest the SKIMZ and buy it through somewhere with a good return policy.  if you go with the Jeabo then maybe get 2 and after testing keep one for a backup.

Yeah I would get the jeabo from sb reefs or the skims from BRS so I feel safe on the buying a dud possibility.

Another thing I can’t get answered yet is does anyone make one with a low speed feed mode (not full off) without going to apex control?

The Varios -6 is speed controlled at the controller so you can turn it down to the lowest setting. If you needed slower or more control you will need the APEX and the cable but this pump is APEX ready!

175$, it’s in great condition. I replaced it with the Varios-8 so I could get more flow in my large Fuge. Otherwise I would till be using this one. It’s far better pump than the others. Coral Vue supplies all the parts in America if something breaks. I haven’t had any problems so I got another Varios, not a Vectra or RD.

I can vouch for the varios pumps being great. That’s what I have. I have my apex controlling mine but it is controllable from its own controller just have limited options. Great pump though and that’s a decent deal Aaron is tossing out. Think they are about $300 new
