New Tank Coming

Recommended Posts

perk73

Well since I've dumped my "shitty drilled" 150 as a lizard tank I've decided to pull the trigger on a 150 from SCA Aquariums. Any feedback or input? I'll be pulling the trigger late next week.

http://www.scaquariums.com/SCA-150-Gallon-Starfire-Tank-p/sca-150gpnp.htm

Below is the cabinet color, the rustic design is what allowed me to sell it to the wife :), will have top as well.

Completely PNP, so I'll have some equipment to post when I cut over to include:

Sump (installed, not used)

Pump (installed, not used)

75 Gallon tank w/Black cabinet

Fluval cannister filter

HOB Skimmer

I have a 32" WiFi SB Reeflights on the 75 to put on the new tank. I also have a brand new in the box 32" WiFi SB Reeflights, both were going to be used on the old 150 long. If I cannot use the 2nd set of lights they "may" be getting sold as well; although I was told to try and mount both of them diagonally to get them both under the hood on the new tank, we'll see.

Tank will be delivered tomorrow evening. Question, maybe a problem. I have 2 32"SB Reef lights...i will only have 60" to play with. Not sure I can angle them with the hood set up. 1 of the lights are brand new never been opened. Maybe Mike would let me return it for a 16" and go with a 32 and a 16.....Ideas?

Worst case let me know, I have pair of 16" wifi on my 125, could use a lil more light. Maybe we could work out some kind of trade if ya want.

I have the same tank. I'm running 3 16" Basic SB Reef Lights connected to the Apex. I have a lot of light...too much actually. But since you are in the beginning of your build, I would highly recommend adding 2 T5s...one in front and one in back. I've noticed that my larger SPS don't get enough light on the underside. I've be considering add a couple to mine.

I look for to watching your progress...it is a beautiful tank.

Here it is dry but delivered. Bad news is wife wants it set up and 75 out before next weekends triple Bachelorette party (1 is my daughter's) .... Yes I will be out. So.... I will have to use the out of the box setup with no ball valve....besides I like the green flex hose, but not a fan of just hose going into the sump as a drain. Also, it's triple drilled and not sure about the intent of the third hole since they sent a capped pvc for it.... Emergency overflow maybe? If so, I assume it just needs to be a pvc higher than the normal overflow? 779ff3235d6dfb4214f123c1fb95b46d.jpg

What's the best way to do a leak test without filling it all the way up? Just fill up the overflow and enough in the sump for the pump to work?

Good tank choice.

Love the finish on the cabinet.

I would defiantly mount the 32"s in a way to take advantage of every bit of light possible and that's Rockn lighting system, then add a couple T5s!!!!

Exactly just as you said. The most common place for a leak is the the bulkhead, a lot take a pair of channel locks and crank down as hard as they can. All it needs is to spin it on till contact then a 1/4 turn. You get it as tight as you can the gasket gets squeezed out creating a leak.

Up running with water......no leaks, the pump is a bit noisier than  I'd like. Now to let the salinity settle and start swapping water, rock and livestock.

Well shit! I put in the Sicce, good pump, very strong but the vibration noise may have me move on to a different model. We'll see how it plays out as far as tolerance. Quietness is very important since the tank is in the back of the living room. If I do, will have to wait......since it just got up and running (livestock will be moved over here as soon as the sand settles) I need to give the wife some....."acceptance time" before I dig into a change.

strange, the smaller Sicce i had on a system was very quiet.  Place it on a silicon pad (like they sell for kitchen use) and i'm sure you have soft silicon line for a small piece before it goes to hard pipe.

Transfer went good. Huge Anemone coming around. My huge green hairy mushrooms were disintegrating..... But seems to have stopped, but lost tons of size. And my zoanthids have yet to open up completely..... But otherwise went "ok". :)

Yeah, I know, going out this weekend for more live rock and maybe get a Naso if Mike has one. However, I also want to check my PAR and make sure the 16" and 32" SB WiFi are getting good coverage to the bottom of the tank. Since I probably won't be checking it all that often, anyone got a meter I can barrow?

I think Mike has a Seneye he rents out. As for the Naso, the fish order hasn't come in this week but right now no Naso. Can definatly get one coming in next week (depending on supplier)

Great! Still plan on popping in and checking everything out. Also, seems like I'm getting a bit of a diatom break out with the change over. Hopefully it doesn't get too bad.

Where are you located and do you have an APEX?

As for the pump vibration, a short run of silicone tubing between the pump and return line plus a silicone mat around the pump whereever it makes contact should isolate the vibration and quiet it down considerably.
