Probably a tad early to start a build thread, but since I FINALLY have some progress I figured this was the place for some before and after pics even with just the prep work :)

Below is the bare wall where the tank will go, area of the garage where the ATO, mixing station, Auto Water Change will run from, and utility room where new sub-panel will be along with batteries and inverter to serve as a large UPS.

It's never too early. You have the tank ordered. I've been waiting on a few of our members to post pictures if walls, saying "if my wife passes before me. 15 days later, there is where a 300+ gallon tank is going to go"

LOL, I'm lucky on that aspect!!!  My wife LOVES a reef tank!  When we tore down everything in Wisconsin she was crying and refused to see the 200g carted off.  I SWORE I was done with the hobby, so also sold off everything.  I sold the last of some valves, air pumps, and a few Mag pumps not more than two months ago.  THEN my parents moved to town, and Dad had to have a tank.  Freshwater, but helping him triggered the bug :(  Soooo, I asked the wife if on of the Red Sea systems would be ok in the breakfast area.  She said "Yes, yes, yes, can I have a Hippo tang?".  I told her "No, it would be too small".

She obviously said "Then I need a bigger tank", so here we are :)  I even bought a used 250g from Chris, but the wife decided she really wanted the 7 ft. custom tank and a happier tang.  lol, someone is going to steal my wife if I don't get this all running.  She'll make it to a future meeting as well.  She just doesn't have an interest in electric, plumbing, or chemistry.

There are a few of us lucky(?) ones. Like over at SB Reefs, it belongs to Collette, Mike is just there for the manual labor. At my house the tanks and everything is my wife's, The 55g brute and water change equipment is mine.

The engineering, design, and build is half the fun so of course you got left with the WC equipment :)

I approved the final stand drawing last night so it is now on the production board at Brownsille Welding :)  Miracles said they should be sending me progress pictures soon of the tank in work.  I still need to get water storage containers and all the floats and solenoids I'll need for the RO and AWC but I got the RO/DI itself up and working this morning.  I was pleasantly surprised to find incoming supply TDS of only 50.

Yeah, I was at 270 in Wisconsin and felt VERY lucky even with that when comparing it to so many on wells :)  RO/DI I got used and is a BRS 150 gpd water saver version.  I had intended to drop it back to only 1 membrane since 75 gpd would still be more than enough and get a better rejection rate, but with incoming at 50 TDS maybe I'll just leave it alone.  I won't be burning through DI and still have higher production and save a tad bit of water.  Seller was unsure how old the membranes are.  I replaced the sediment and carbon blocks and seeing 2-3 TDS out of the RO so the membranes are due.  Getting 0 TDS out of old, spent DI yet but all stocked up on DI once I need it.

UPS and FedEx guys are getting to know me well now, lol.  Other, and larger, sump arrived yesterday.  Piles of stuff today.  Today included two MP60WQD.  Wow, I wasn't expecting them to be so stout, lol.  Kalk reactor, calcium reactor, much of the misc stuff all on the way.  Six days to go on Black Friday sales :)

It's fun saving some funds, but also stinks knowing how far off using any of it still is :(

BRS is having the sale now, have you looked at them?

My UPS driver sees me at work just and gives me my packages there, if not I don't see them until after 5.

I have an order in my cart hoping every day the daily deal is something either on my list or something I really want. Not so far unfortunately. I think I am going to pull the trigger today.

Yep, I have the same issue and have pulled the trigger to soon.  If within two weeks even, just give them a call and they will usually give store credit for the difference.  Hard to track though if it's for a large number of small items, and likely not worth the effort, but for any expensive item they will cover the difference.

Had a delivery today.  1/2 pound of GFO all over the the box :(  I'm sure they will cover that as well, but in case they want to see it I haven't pulled all the test kits and Hanna checkers out of that same box.  Is a bummer not getting my daily "check out the new stuff" fix, lol.  Another order from Fragtastic came in missing some food.  Not a good day for deliveries!  Owner of Fragtastic is pretty cool though, and likes to talk about reef tanks, so all covered on that already :)

That's awesome, some places do have killer customer service in this hobby. The fitting between the sediment and the first carbon filter on my RODI cracked and the BRS guy said "no prob, that's under warranty, ships free, be there in two days" I think the phone call lasted 45 seconds.

Dakotasport92, I'd agree.  BRS, Marine Depot, Premium Aquatics.  Just about anyone I've ever purchased from in the past was awesome.  On my last tank I bought an Oceans Motions for a closed loop and the owner there ALSO liked to talk.  BRS is hard to beat though, but I've got a growing pile from Fragtastic.  He's a brick and mortar shop though so shipping not as fast and the website itself can get irritating, lol.  It's still another actually in the hobby and we really do get great service from "most" that deal with this hobby :)

That's a thing about this hobby. You don't get into it thinking you're going to make a quick buck. Now there are those hoping to strike "gold" by finding that magic acro, or zoa. I think most get into supply thinking "hey if I get a bunch other people to order with me my _____ will be cheaper".

Wooo Hooo!!!  Tank is finally almost done.  I got a picture of it today, but no point posting that since it's identical to the one above other than one inch taller.  Last I heard from Brownsville Welding was right before Christmas and the stand is also done and was only waiting for powder coating.  Only issue was the tank taking longer than estimated and I have work travel coming up so will have to play with shipping dates possibly :(  Not sure what would be worse.  Delay a shipment, or have to walk away from a new tank and leave it dry, lol.

At least if you walk away from a dry tank you know you can get it wet right when you get home. If you delay the ship you are at someone else's mercy and waiting again. Of course you don't want it showing up after you are out of town either if something happens that delays it a day or two.

Apparently some issue with Cisco is delaying my work trips, so should be good :)  Not 100% yet though because I have no shipping dates yet, but should be good to go!

Stand done and delivered :)

IMG_0452_zpslbbfdojk.jpg

Only problem is it's MUCH heavier than I expected and we got no further than the garage, lol.  I had already planned on needing a tank raising party once delivered (It's getting delivered to the drive now), but didn't expect this.  Me, wife, and the guy dropping it off barely managed to slide it out of the truck.
