Crimsoncraig Report post Posted June 7, 2016 I am new to saltwater aquarium and was wondering if anyone could tell me how I could transport fish from water to my house. I plan to collect some fish from the east jetties.

Crimsoncraig Report post Posted June 7, 2016 Can anyone tell me what this is?
drauka Report post Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) looks like a melenarus, vrolik or grey head wrasse, from the size I am thinking grey head. I am not good at identifying the particular one Edited June 7, 2016 by drauka
TrentN Report post Posted June 7, 2016 drauka, if it's any of the one's you named it's a female. Unless ChrimsonCraig has some itty bitty girly hands that fish is around 6 inches and a male would be starting to show it's colors. And they all have very distinct patterns on the face. Plus they are all Pacific wrasses. I do think it's either in the Halichoeres or the Thalassoma genus. Craig, as for what it is, that'll take a while to research it but I can tell you it's most likely going to get 2-4 inches longer and you will have not clean up crew. Hermits, snails, small shrimp, and crabs are on the menu. Maybe even urchins and starfish.
drauka Report post Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) Grey head wrasse is listed as 6" max and I have seen melenarus mentioned in the 6" range as well. That's why i guessed those. Harder to tell with it being out of the water and "stress pale" Agree 99% chance its a snail eater at best Edited June 7, 2016 by drauka
Crimsoncraig Report post Posted June 7, 2016 Thanks for the info I assumed it was some kind of wrasse just thought someone might have some info on it. This was caught by my kids last year while snorkeling at the jetties. This is the fish that got me into saltwater aquariums, kids ask could they bring this home and I thought that would be cool if we could. But once I got started looking into tanks and seen the reef tanks I instantly became obsessed with wanting a reef tank. So here we are, but I would like to be able to collect some fish for the fowlr tank.

Crimsoncraig Report post Posted June 7, 2016 That's the closest fish I could find on the internet that looks the same. It was about 6" but we did see some a Lil bigger probably about 8"-10".
lobstergrabber Report post Posted June 11, 2016 Nolefan is correct. That is definitely a slippery dick wrasse and it will rule the tank Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
