Group Buy Gone Terribly Wrong

yes,  at most a partnership with one other to buy a expensive frag and one of you grow it out a little and frag off for the other.  Of course only local even then, not nation wide like that one is.  Reading that forum is always seems like a hodge-podge of new reefers and established ones who get all mixed up in those and nothing ever works well.  to many chiefs and not enough indians.

This is a tough situation but i think it was rediculous to pay 500+ to have someone else grow out a frag and hope it makes it. I have lost very little but stuff happens and to have all that sitting in one tank is just too big a temp of fate. I can understand group buys where you use buying power to negotiate a better deal and split shipping but this just seems insane. I feel bad for each of them but it think this was marked for failure from the beginning. I hope they are each able to get something out of it but that looks questionable at best.

lol... as I said a grow out between 2 local people I would probably do.... I would want to know where the other person lived and it be a close enough drive

The stuff should have been split evenly and the free frags given to all in buy out group as it grows out. Then if someone kills their coral they get left out.

Yah I agree with the lobster man, I see nothing wrong with local people going in on an online purchase to cut shipping cost, but what happend in this situation was crazy.

I just told my wife the story and she is just shaking her head. I am still reeling over people willing to drop 500+ to let someone else grow their stuff. I could maybe consider doing this two ways like Drauka said and he grows half and I grow half. But then you both have something. If one dies then different arrangements can be made to buy out of individual corals or something but at least you have something. I think I will stick to splitting shipping if I do a group buy.
