Best Coral For Noobs?

Recommended Posts

I have always kept aggressive fish, started with Oscars in a 55 gallon tank when I was 5. I want to start a 56 gallon cube with all kinds of corals etc. Do you know any good websites with articles on keeping coral?

Hollywood Stunner is pretty bullet proof.  I use liveaquaria.com a lot for most corals.  it tells you what's aggressive, suggest where to place them in the tank, lighting/flow requirements, etc.

those big green palys, Anthelia,  I know of a lady who grew anthelia in a tank with a single t8 florescent tube, it had covered every bit of rock in the tank.

i would think most of the corals that a lot of us worry about taking over a tank would be perfect and I think most have been mentioned above. They are prolific growers that do not require intense lighting(they do require a minimum level though) and even more important most of them will grow in less than pristine water conditions such as a predator tank. My first tank was a 55 with power compact lighting and that was more than enough light for these corals and you could do that up on the cheap I would think.

Just always remember 1 thing about zoas, never handle them if you have an open wound on your hands. If you happen to break them apart and the toxin gets into your bloodstream you won't have time to call 911.

I've lost every one of those at one time or another except leather coral lol. Bringing up that Hollywood stunner is just wrong lol but it will grow fast and is pretty Indestructible. Look up the fish you want to keep because some of those fish you kept in the fowl are probably not compatible in a reef environment. So many different zoa colors ;). Welcome aboard :)
