My 65 Gallon

Recommended Posts

Time for an update. All acros in the hospital tank are still going which is good. Still sticking to my dipping and havent really seen any since the first couple rounds.

I did notice that there is a small patch of I think red planet growing back in the display. I am going to putty over it tonight. Should I restart my fallow period? I even inspected the rocks up close under blue light when I was taking a paint scraper to them when I first pulled them all. Its crazy how such "difficuly" corals can grow back after all that scraping from what had to have been just a speck.

I added another couple of local tessellated belnnys. I put one in the frag tank this time because the ones in the display always vanish. Thanks again for those Ron!

Here is the current tank and a pic of one of the blennys after I added the last one and my devil clownfish.

Have not seen those blennies again. They do well in QT but once they are in DT they vanish. Kind of a bummer. Of course the other blennies from around the area I have in there are flourishing. Have 2 Molly Millers, 2 Seaweeds.

Pictures like this one almost make me want to start over. What's your water maintenance dosing schedule?

I do a once a week 5 gal water change and each evening before bed I dose 90ml cal and 90ml alk. I add mag around once a week as needed.

Moving across town on March 3rd and since I am breaking down the tank to move anyway, I decided to sell all rocks with palys on them. So the reef as seen above is no longer with us. Most of the caps broke up when I got the paly rocks out and I sold off some stuff over the weekend.

I used my earnings to buy a new coral box skimmer to replace my broken Kent skimmer that came with my old 56. I am excited to get this thing dialed in.

I also added a marine pure block a couple weeks ago in anticipation of removing all the paly rocks. I hope to have a more minimalist look once I get the tank set up again at the new house.

Wish me luck on the move and thanks to everyone who bought frags and rocks.

If you want the ultimate in minimalist tanks get a 200+ gallon and put only 1 softball sized rock in it, on a bed of sand.

Lol. Ok, I amend my statement to a "reduced rock look"

Update on my system- everything is in disarray since I took the big paly rocks out. Don't really feel like rescaping since it has to get torn down in a couple weeks to move.

My anemone split. I caught and removed a big crab that had been cracking open snails and eating them from the top.

The frag I got from SB reefs at the giveaway meeting is coloring up and going to be awesome.

I was watching some WWC eBay auctions end and my wife all of a sudden was interested. Was playing around and won a green cyphastrea. I said we may as well get a few since we have to pay shipping for that thing. She spent the next couple hours trying to snipe frags. Ended up with 2 cyphastrea and 4 acros. 3 of the acros will be pretty sweet. She said she loved the rush of the bidding at the last second. I said I hope you never go to Vegas but I think she will be down for this again sometime so that's always cool.

If you have never ordered from WWC (was my first) the transaction, shipping and livestock are top notch and Florida shipping is only $25.

Anyway, here are some pics.

Lol you're gonna get your wife addicted to reefing one way or another. I can see it now, Happyhourhero "Hunny gonna buy some corals online" walks to computer. Wife sitting at computer "what too you so long to get here?"

Yeah I have tried 4 of the Tessellated. Once they get put in the display they vanish. I think the frillfin goby gets them because they are so small. From my experience, they are nocturnal and not the best choice for reef tanks. They will eat in QT but houdini within 2 days otherwise. Might work in a nano?

They look great and would love to try one. But if they won't be seen (nocturnal). Maybe a different one would be better.

You guys think a flame angel nipping that causes sps polyps to not be out so much during the day will be a huge problem or do you think i will be ok if i leave it in there? It is not eating them, its just doing what angels do but it is for sure causing retracted polyps.

That's not good, he is irritating the corals. That's going to cause a problem in one form or another.
