Cobia Running

Recommended Posts

Go down to Noriega point in the early morning. From what I have heard they have been moving through. Hopefully I get good news at dr on Monday and I can think about getting out there.

I need to go fishing soon, getting the itch bad. Last planed day to fish was the day the Blackhawk went into the sound. That's right where we fish, ended up going to the new pensacola fishing pier, it suxed. Not even a pinfish.

I fish off the causeway, usually the SE corner of the little island, near the south bridge. Have cought some very nice fish there. My son landed a huge Red, somewhere around 45# didn't have a scale or anything longer than a ruler at the time but it was over 48 inches. We've brought home I don't know how many slot legal ones. Got a nice spotted seatrout, flounder, specks, black drum, and a monster sailcat.

Was able to land some nice Spanish but got out there too late for the pompano that had schooled up :(. It's ok though. I'll be going out there again within the next couple of days :). Didn't see any cobia coming down the beach while I was out there but that's not my thing anyway.

Where did you go out of curiosity?

I typically go to the east jetties now. Used to go on the west to avoid crowds but my body doesn't like those jetties anymore lol. Pompano were schooling up on the shorter jetty first thing in the morning. There was a ton of people on it with boats wrapped completely around it though so I just went to the longer one. Good day when I don't get skunked :). Pompano fishing should get crazy this week.

The boats were piled out there a few days ago too. I did not think of pompano being what they were chasing but makes sense now. I cannot walk that long jetty anymore either. Last time I did it I ended up getting in the water half way back on way home and walking wet. Amazing how quickly my friends and I ran up and down those rocks when we were young.

I didn't jump in the water but that's funny lol. Damn arthritis in my knees makes it a little painful to jump from rock to rock now. Last time I did it , I was hurting after the fact. Sucks getting a little older :). Hard to slow down when I want to quickly get out there lol. Some of the same boats heading out my way after a while and one of the pompano kings told me ;) lol
