Snorkeling Panama City

Recommended Posts

I've been diving off the jetties before and plan on snorkeling there this trip, but i may snorkel on the inside of that strip where the grass is. I hear there may be seahorses there which will be interesting to look at, but i'm not interested in keeping. I would like some snails maybe and maybe some plants. Any suggestions for plants that are OK in a refugium and snails that are ok in a tank? Are the hermits in that area the normal striped hermits (which i don't like in my tank) or are there other reef "safe" species in the area? Any other place to snorkel other than the park that is worth the time? Thanks!

The Brown & white striped ones you see at Ft Walton are still at Panama City, but you'll also see a bunch of big bright red ones, and sometimes they are carrying big anemones on their shells.

Yeah, i've seen those but they are a little too big for my tank :) I was hoping for something smaller but still considered reef safe. Although, i have seen people selling the striped ones and claiming them to be just as reef safe as blue and red legs. Perhaps i'll pick up a couple and drop them in. Snails though, anyone know of any that can go in the aquarium?

Here's what i saw. Macros, ulva, codium, turtle grass, sargassum, dictoya, padina, spifcifera, gracilaria. Animals, nudibranchs, multitude of fish, blue hermits, giant red hermits, ceriths, olive snails, rock anemones,, bunch of what I think are predatory snails, sponges, corals, and what I think are some sort of gorgonian. It's a long dark stalked stem with feathery extensions off each branch. You are not allowed to collect animals or plants from the park. On the west beach side there are a lot of bits of ulva and spifcifera washing in with the waves. A piece of ulva might have gotten stuck to a fin :)/>
